Faith Formation
Faith Formation
Faith Formation is such an important part of our life and work together and 2024 was another faith-full year of activities. At KUC, our mission is to explore Faith questions in a way that allows you to reflect on your own but also participate in activities in the community.
Year round, there is a Men’s Book Club that meets monthly and a Men’s Breakfast that meets weekly. The UCW is an entity unto itself but is a faith formation activity as they learn and grow. The Affirm Team is another entity unto itself but does provide many learning opportunities through worship.
Mother’s Day cakes were made in 2024 with the help of Jennifer Reid and others.
In the latter part of 2024, Rev. Jenni and our interim Faith formation minister, Rev. Daniel, combined worship with other faith activities. In August 2024, the congregation was invited to join other Ottawa area United Churches at the Pride parade – a first for many new KUC members. Throughout the fall of 2024, folks were invited to learn more about how KUC strives to be a more Inclusive and Affirming Ministry. Rev. Jenni and Rev. Daniel even brought a contingency to Renfrew United one Sunday to worship along with that congregation.
For the children and youth, regular activities were offered via Sunday School, after Worship activities and families were also invited to participate in various activities relating to Lent 2024, with our Right Relations and Affirming ministries, and learn more about Outreach and Pastoral care. By including all, we seek to ensure that we keep Faith exploration as part of our regular daily-weekly routines, in addition to Sunday Worship. In the Fall of 2024, we hired 2 young men, former camp leaders at Rideau Hill, to lead our Sunday School. Nathan and Brayden stayed with us for 4 months and enriched our Sunday school program.
Rev. Jenni and Rev. Daniel not only continued their pastoral care for the congregation but hosted several New Member orientations, connected new members with Outreach and other circles. Kassia kept regular communications through the Friday file. Others reached out through one-on-one communications and also through Facebook groups and the KUC website.
Busy times indeed.
Faith exploration does not happen without the Gifts, Support and Talents (the GST) of KUC volunteers.
- The Nursery and Sunday school – with special thanks to Delaney, Nathan and Brayden
- Regular Book studies – Lent and Advent Studies (using A Sanctified Art resource), Fall Book Study (Do I stay Christian? By Brian McLaren). Thank you, Rev. Jenni, for your leadership.
- Before and after Worship fellowship activities – with appreciation to Marilyn S. and the greeters
- For special Learning activities – to all of you who provided food, coffee, rides to events and ongoing support (with a nod to the UCW and Mens’ Circle for their ongoing help)
- To our KUC Council – especially to the M&P circle and treasurer Doug Brooks who ensured that all moved smoothly as we welcomed some new folks to our Ministry team.
We are blessed with an extraordinary group of folks at KUC who answer the Call to help. Please keep doing what you are doing. I hope that you know how much you make a difference.
Currently, our Faith Formation leader, Diana Brushey, is on a family leave. We keep her and her family in our thoughts and prayers.
