Refugee Support and Local Outreach

There are lots of ways to get involved locally, through Kitchissippi United Church. Here are just some of the ways:

  • At Christmas, we pack hampers of food and gifts for families in need in our local area. The food is donated by Loblaws (Carlingwood), and then sorted, packed and delivered by Kitchissippi UC volunteers.
  • During the month of December, we collect white gifts or small gifts of socks, winter hats and mittens, toiletries, etc which are then donated to the folks of Kimberlane and Hampton residential care homes.We also collect mittens for babies and small children. The mittens are then delivered to schoolchildren in need who live the Forward Avenue Shelter, run by Somerset West Community Health Centre and Minwasshin Lodge.
  • We collect men’s hats, mittens, scarves and toiletries which are then provided to The Mission.
  • We collect warm socks for street kids; these are distributed through The Youth Services Bureau.
