Outreach Circle

Christmas Hampers

Kitchissippi's outreach focus includes projects that are local (e.g. support to the Parkdale Food Centre, the Carlington Community Chaplaincy, The Ottawa Mission, Forward Avenue Emergency Shelter, etc.) and overseas sponsorship of refugee applicants from Africa. Some of the outreach plans are linked to other Kitchissippi UC groups (youth, young adults, UCW, men's group,) and our pre-Christmas outreach within the community involves many in the congregation.  We'd also like to promote increased awareness of social justice projects supported by the United Church of Canada (local, national, international) through the Mission and Service Fund.

We welcome all interested in outreach to join us in planning and doing - more  information is included on specific projects. We meet monthly as required, generally the last Thursday of each month.  We can use your help.  Fellowship, worthy causes and as much involvement as you wish, either as "champion" of a project or a team member - it's all rewarding!

ONGOING WINTER OUTREACH:

THE OTTAWA MISSION – We’ll collect toiletries for The Mission as well as warm socks, mitts and toques, and even gently used winter boots and jackets…and will deliver when the boxes near the front door are full.

IN FROM THE COLD DINNERS – On January 22, 2011 a KUC team helped prepare and serve a dinner at Parkdale United Church.  We’d like to do more of these dinners with more Kitchissippi volunteers.

PARKDALE FOOD CENTRE  (PFC) –  Monthly non-perishable food contributions, donations online through the ‘Canada Helps’ button (http://www.parkdalefoodcentre.org/) or by cheque payable to the Parkdale Food Centre (both tax receipted) help the PFC provide food to many needy, hungry people in our neighbourhood.

CARLINGTON COMMUNITY CHAPLAINCY – KUC provides advisory support (CCC Council membership) and financial support to the Chaplaincy, a grass roots ministry working to develop local leadership and programs for adults and youth in the Carlington neighbourhood.  Outreach has a grocery card fundraiser for the Chaplaincy; KUC members can purchase grocery cards redeemable at Loblaws and Metro (and affiliates) and a 4-5% profit goes to the CCC - at no expense to congregational members or the church.

** Volunteers with CCC are needed, from helping prep or serve at a Saturday Night Dinner there (date TBD),and the annual community Christmas dinner, to coffee time in the “Stronghold” drop-in, to helping with an art, music or youth program. Speak to an Outreach member and check out http://carlingtonchaplaincy.org/.  Financial support, for examplethrough the ‘Friends of the Chaplaincy’ campaign, is key to increasing awareness and support!
